DRIVER'S EDUCATION COURSE OF INSTRUCTION

Classroom (theoretical) Instruction (30 hours)

Hirons Driving Academy uses the Drive Right training series. Each student will have his/her own Drive Right textbook and will learn the content of the chapters through reading, class discussions, demonstrations, and workbooks. Class computers may be available for those who prefer alternate methods of study.

Subject areas include, but are not limited to:

1. Subject matter relating to rules and regulations of operating a motor vehicle
2. Safe driving practices
3. Pedestrian safety
4. Driver responsibility
5. Accident reporting
6. Mental attitudes and physical characteristics of individuals as related to the operation of a motor vehicle
7. Maintenance of an automobile
8. Handling of driver emergencies
9. Driving skills
10. Basic first aid
11. Signs, signals, highway markings, and highway design features which require understand for the safe operation of a motor vehicle.

Practical (Behind-the-Wheel) instruction

6 hours of Behind-the-Wheel (practical) Instruction to include the demonstration of and actual instruction in stopping, starting, shifting, turning, backing, parallel parking, and steering in a dual controlled vehicle which meet the standards prescribed by the Commissioner. Additional hours of practice may be purchased.
